Hood River Library

The renovation of the Hood River Library doubles the size and preserves the historic integrity of the existing Carnegie Library. The expansion includes numerous windows that compliment the form of the original library, as well as provide stunning views of the Columbia River Gorge. The clerestory windows of the addition are part of a natural ventilation system that was designed after extensive modeling with computational fluid dynamics showed that comfort conditions could be maintained without air conditioning during operating hours. Improvements were designed to preserve the adjacent historic park and maintain the pedestrian path through the site between the original library and new addition.
